I'm pleased to announce that the third book in The Lifelight Series is now available for the Kindle (and other devices through a kindle app).

If you enjoy this latest instalment, remember that you can help to promote my work by pressing the 'like' button on the Amazon page and/or by leaving a review (if you have the time).  I'd also love to hear what you think through the contact page on this site or through my facebook page.

The direct links to the Amazon pages are below - Happy Reading!  :)

I Learn Something New Every Day...

23/11/2012

Here's something you may not know about me - I love to 'collect' real-life stories, experiences and random facts that often turn up within the pages of my books in some altered/fictionalised form.  I may not have blinded my teachers with my brilliance or thirst for knowledge whilst at school; but I've tried to make up for that ever since.  So, when my husband mentioned a publication called '1,227 QI Facts To Blow Your Socks Off'... I wasn't going to let it pass me by!  ;)

And yes, I learned something new.

Any Lifelight Series fans will recognise the name Michael Faraday, who invented the Faraday Cage in 1836.  He's one of my scientific heroes, second only to Albert Einstein (who apparently kept a picture of Faraday on his study wall).  ANYWAY, what I didn't know (until reading the above mentioned book) is that Michael Faraday left school at the age of 14 with a very basic education, but went on to teach himself everything he knew by reading the books that he dealt with during a 7 year bookbinding apprenticeship...  WOW!  Talk about inspiring... I think that gives anyone who feels they 'failed' at school something to aim for - LOTS of READING!

And speaking of which, I also learned a new word from reading this book:  CHARETTE n. - An intense flurry of activity to finish something by a deadline.

Hmm... I definitely have experience of that!

One along from Jules Verne, Two along from J.R.R.Tolkien

This is a photo that my daughter sent me from Waterstones bookshop in Hull.  I knew that they'd bought some copies of my books, and I thought they'd put them in the 'Local Authors' section - so I was surprised to see that the first two Lifelight books had found their way into such illustrious company!

Safe to say, I never expected to see books that I had written in a bookshop, sitting one down from Jules Verne and two down from Tolkien!

Inchmahome's Press Office has VERY nice staff...

Gulp! Today I did something for the very first time - I contacted a press office! (the one for Inchmahome, Scotland).

I made the call because, on my last visit to the island, I got chatting to the very nice lady in the gift shop there. To my surprise, she seemed really excited about '21st Century Light' and the other books.  She took some of the postcards promoting the series for herself and other members of staff, and then proceeded to give me the number and contact details for the press office - saying that although I didn't need permission to use the setting in a work of fiction, she thought they'd still be interested and like to know when the book was coming out... Personally, I wasn't so sure about the 'interested' bit.

To be honest, I thought I'd get an 'Oh, thanks for telling us' - whilst they discreetly stuffed the details to the back of a filing cabinet somewhere. What I didn't expect was for them to ask me if I wanted them to sell the book on Inchmahome itself (how amazing would THAT be?) and then request an e-mail with further details about the series. Wow... we'll wait and see what happens now.

Well, it's been a while since I 'blogged', and I've been writing feverishly since then.

The third book, '21st Century Light' (and the longest story to date), is now complete.  After a few last minute tweaks and a visit to my copy editor, it'll be off to the printers.  The cover for it is being crafted as I type - and it looks AMAZING so far.  I'll post the finished design as soon as I have it!

So far, everything's 'on track', so my fingers are crossed that this will continue.  Hard to believe that, in another week or two, I'll be turning my attention to the next book in the series - 'Chemical Light'.  :)
