I'm someone who reads whenever I get the chance - fiction, text books, the lot! However, I also write... so I KNOW that in fiction, a lot of the story is often silently conveyed 'between the lines' - an extra layer to the plot that's just waiting for a reader who'll delve a bit deeper and discover it.
Take this morning - I was sitting enjoying a coffee and a huge dollop of comfort reading (in the form of a contemporary romance) when I came across a reference to 'the Frost poem - miles to go before I sleep'. I'd never heard of it before... so I decided to 'Google' it! Really glad I did: Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. Robert Frost Now THERE'S a scene I could weave a whole story around! And thanks to a reference placed by a romance author, I've had the satisfaction of finding another 'gem' just sitting there, waiting to be read... 'Free' promotion for Lifelights - Plus a link to Amazon's sample chapters of '21st Century Light'29/12/2012 To celebrate the publication of the third book in The Lifelight Series, 'Lifelights' will be free to download from 1st - 3rd January 2013 for the kindle (and for other devices using the free kindle app available): KINDLE APP
For those of you who are already following the series, here's the link to the sample chapters of 21st Century Light, available on Amazon UK. The world, for both Lifelights and humans, just got a LOT more dangerous: 21ST CENTURY LIGHT SAMPLE CHAPTERS Another landmark in my life - today the third book in The Lifelights Series, 21st Century Light, is officially launched in Paperback.
As ever, this latest publication was NOT a solo venture and I'd like to thank my IT expert, my Copy Editor and all my friends and readers. You stuck by me, read the raw chapters, critiqued and encouraged me, until '21st Century Light' was finally finished; first for the kindle and then for the printers. Your time and patience is MUCH appreciated!! 21st Century Light Amazon UK 21st Century Light Amazon US And through all good book shops by quoting the ISBN: 978-0-9571817-3-1 It's been a busy week for me: approving the proof copy of the new book, trying to raise the profile of the series by sending out e-mails to would-be reviewers... (for anyone who gets the Yorkshire Ridings Magazine - keep an eye out for 'Lifelights' appearing on their book reviews page!). And then, today, it appears that '21st Century Light' is already available for purchase to Amazon customers in the US! The buying status has changed from 'pre-order' to 'add to cart'.
Considering that it usually takes about 2 weeks for a new title to filter through the distribution systems (and THAT'S the reason we listed the release date as 21st December), the almost instantaneous appearance of the title on Amazon is pretty impressive! Nice to see... So, I guess it's time to get back to writing the fourth book (pure pleasure). I also need to wrestle with a Christmas tree, decorations, present wrapping, card writing, festive baking... I'm definitely behind the field when it comes to my Christmas preparations - I keep getting distracted by my laptop! :) |
